On Tuesday, November 7, William Jewell College welcomed Mr. Thomas W. Laming as he delivered the keynote remarks at the annual Everett P. Truex Economic and Financial Forum. The event, attended by over 250 students, faculty and guests, was held at 7:30 p.m. in the Yates-Gill College Union, Room 221-222. The title of Mr. Laming’s presentation was, “Technological Change, Economic Growth, and the Shape of Things to Come”.
Tom Laming is a private investor and consultant. He was formerly Senior Vice President and Lead Portfolio Manager with Scout Investments in Kansas City. Prior to that he was President and Founder of TrendStar Advisors, a money management firm based in Overland Park, Kansas, which was acquired by UMB Financial. He spent 10 years with Buffalo Mutual Funds as Chief Equity Strategist and Co-Lead Manager for the Buffalo Small-Cap, Mid-Cap, Large-Cap, Global and Science & Technology funds.
Tom was previously a technology analyst with Waddell and Reed, and prior to entering investment management he was a spacecraft designer with Lockheed Martin in Denver, Colorado and with Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach, California, and was a Space Shuttle navigation analyst in Houston, Texas. He holds a B.S. with highest distinction in physics from the University of Kansas, an M.S. degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an M.B.A. from Indiana University.
Tom has managed five-star rated mutual funds, designed spacecraft, written software, appeared on countless finance-related television programs and played every golf course that has hosted the British Open since it was first played in 1860.
