Jewell Joins International Trade Council of Greater Kansas City

itc-logoBy Sabrine Navarro – Jewell has recently become a member if the International Trade Council of Greater Kansas City (ITCGKC). The Council connects global partners and professionals within the international trade business with their member universities. ITCGKC provides a service to its members, offering educational opportunities that range from networking events to simulations for classrooms. Dr. Kelli Schutte, Chair of the Department of Business and Leadership at Jewell, notes the significance of becoming a member of ITCGKC, “This especially benefits students who are already interested in international trade while also giving students in all majors the opportunity to explore.”

ITCGKC is a nonprofit association that commits itself to establishing strong international business networks within the greater Kansas City region. In addition to providing networking opportunities for students, ITCGKC also connects students with local companies that are in search of fresh talent to join their teams as interns. Many Jewell students have also received scholarships from ITCGKC in the past. Students who show an interest in international trade and have a particular desire to acquire a career in logistics, trade compliance, international marketing and related fields are encouraged to apply for a scholarship with the association.

ITCGKC has partnered with some major universities in the Kansas City area for Global Career Day. William Jewell has recently become a member of the association, providing Jewell students ample opportunity to become involved and share their interest. ITCGKC hosts events in Kansas City year round that allow businessmen or students alike to share their interest in international trade or to simply grow their network. Events will generally feature business leaders that will give brief presentations about their success in the industry. Jewell students have the opportunity to attend the many events and also Global Career Day, a partnership event between ITCGKC and area colleges and universities.
