By Kelsey Wagner – Recent WJC grad Conner Hazelrigg ‘15 is doing big things with her invention of the “Sunshine Box”, a solar powered cell phone charger, which can charge up to ten phones simultaneously while remaining completely portable. In the past year, Conner has participated in the Regnier Venture Challenge which took place at UMKC. Competing with over 100 other entrepreneurs in the KC area, Conner placed third overall and won $7,500 to invest in her business.
Conner also recently participated in the Global Student Entrepreneurship Awards which took place at the Kauffman Convention Center in downtown Kansas City. Conner and the Sunshine Box took second place and received $1,000 for her business. The ultimate goal for Conner is to get her company name and mission statement better known and spark people’s interest in helping those in need by providing affordable and portable solar electric power.
Conner will be featured in the upcoming State of Entrepreneurship issue of KC Source Link regarding some of the most promising entrepreneurs in the area..
Conner has recently changed her business name from Sollular Connections to 17° 73° which are the coordinates of Port au Prince, Haiti and marks the beginnings of Sunshine Box and her mission statement.
