By Chris Stack – University Innovation Fellows (UIF) is a new organization on campus with the aim of promoting creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. The organization hosts meetings and educational trips for students to develop ideas and gain valuable exposure while also offering entrepreneurial grants ranging from $3,000 to $4,000 for students that are looking to start up a business. Grants can be combined with a Journey Grant or can be used separately. There is also funding available to students of any major who want to enhance their ideas.
Plans are currently in the making to host a University Innovation Fellows “Moonshot” event, at which high school and college students join forces to identify and accomplish a tremendous goal (a “Moonshot”).
Recently, Jewell UIF students visited Google Headquarters and Stanford University, which hosts a six week training program for new members of UIF. There are at least two opportunities each semester for students to travel.
