By Max Bennett – Jennifer Ghekas β16 is a Mathematics and Economics major with a Business Administration minor. This past summer she worked as an intern at Philadelphia Insurance Companies in Leawood, Kansas and also traveled to their headquarters in Philadelphia for two weeks.
According to Jennifer, “The experience was very helpful in developing a professional lens into the business world. The most important skills I learned involved effective communication, and how important they are when you are not able to have daily face-to-face interactions with people on your team”. As part of her work, she created an insurance product that the company does not currently offer, and presented it to the CEO at the end of the summer.
Jennifer emphasizes the importance of internships for college students. “Getting an internship in college is extremely helpful for figuring out if a particular industry or company is a good possible career fit. It also gets your foot in the door, and can help you to start building important connections for after graduation”.
