By Emily Scott – On Sunday, April 27, 2014 the William Jewell College Panaegis chapter of Mortar Board initiated 20 new members into the honor society. Mortar Board is a national honor society with nearly a quarter of a million members at 230-chartered chapters across the nation. The president of the Jewell chapter, Chelsea Taff , said, “Mortar Board is a shining example of the brightest and best at William Jewell. Our focus is on scholarship, leadership, and service and our newest inductees embody these attributes.”
Mortar Board recognizes seniors with a GPA in the top 35% of their class and demonstrate strong leadership, scholarship, and service. Upon initiation, members attend monthly meetings and participate in designated service projects. The society fosters leadership growth and lifelong service to the greater community. Taff said, “I felt hopeful singing the alma mater at the end of the induction ceremony, knowing that the senior class is leaving the organization in such able hands.” Soon following the induction will be elections for leadership positions including: president, vice president, secretary, membership, treasurer, service, historian, and fundraising.
