By Luke Longfield – The Department of Business and Leadership is pleased to welcome a new member to the faculty this semester, Professor Shelly McVay. Prior to joining William Jewell, Professor McVay has served as adjunct professor at Baker University, UMKC and Rockhurst University for over twenty one years. Additionally, she has worked in research, advertising, product development and sales at Hallmark for the past 30 years and continues to serve as a consultant to the firm. Professor McVay teaches marketing and general business courses in the department.
McVay holds an undergraduate dergree from Baylor University and a Masters of Business Administration from Rockhurst University in Kansas City. Professor McVay was born in Southern California and lived in the Huntington Beach area in her early years. During her high school years, her family moved to Oklahoma where she was a classmate of country artist Garth Brooks.
Outside of her professional endeavors, McVay volunteers with the Special Olympics and has served on numerous boards including the Oznam Home in south Kansas City, which helps children put their lives back together after emotional, behavioral, and social traumas. Professor McVay and husband, Bill, live in Leawood, Kansas and have three daughters.
