By Channing Wall – During the past summer, sophomore Amelia Hanzlick interned with Entercom Communications in Mission Kansas in the promotion and marketing department, working with Kansas City radio stations 99.7 The Point and 106.5 The Wolf. Commenting on the experience, Amelia said, “I had unique learning experiences and built valuable professional relationships. My supervisors were wonderful at making sure the interns felt involved and a part of the company.”
Among her numerous activities, Hanzlick attended weekly staff meetings and took part in planning advertising campaigns as well as visiting many local music artists. Additionally, the interns participated in promotional remote broadcasts from various locations around the community, during which station personalities interact with fans, promote a product or concert and offer prizes to encourage attendance and listenership. The internship was unpaid but she earned three hours of academic credit.
“It was worth it because of the great experiences. I had the opportunity to interact with Cassadee Pope and Vicci Martinez, both from the show, “The Voice”, as well as Matt Hires, Five for Fighting, David Cook and the Plain White T’s,” Hanzlick said. “I would highly recommend this internship because of the valuable lessons learned and connections made.”
