By Derek Peterson – The Department of Business and Leadership is pleased to welcome a new member to the faculty, Dr. Yuriy Bots, Professor of Economics.

Dr. Bots is a native of Ukraine, having lived on the west side of the country in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk. Prior to Jewell, he received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics in his home country and worked for two years as an economist for a production plant after graduation. During that time Yuriy decided to further his education in the U.S. and was accepted into the Purdue University Doctoral Program where he received his Ph.D. last spring.

Dr. Bots’ enjoyment of economics began even prior to starting undergraduate studies as he came to realize that even simple economic models can provide a framework to help analyze and understand the complexity we observe in our daily lives.

In his first semester teaching at Jewell, Dr. Bots is especially enjoying the Jewell community of engaged students, small class sizes and interaction with fellow faculty, all of which are helping him feel welcome and comfortable here in Missouri.

When Yuriy does have free time he enjoys cycling and reading – and frequently reads outside of his field of studies in order to broaden his perspectives. He also enjoys communicating with his family back in Ukraine. While he doesn’t have a clear cut favorite, he is a fan of American football and soccer.

Dr. Bots currently teaches ECON 202 (Macroeconomics), ECON 308 (Managerial Economics), and ECON 404 (Intro to International Economics).
