By Kelsi Ortega – The Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Mu Delta, an International Honor Society in Business, was established on the William Jewell College campus in 1970. This Honor Society is exclusive to schools who have achieved the Association Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accreditation, which is a rigorous process that reinforces the College’s commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and scholarship.
The purpose of Delta Mu Delta is to promote higher scholarship in training for business and to recognize and reward business administration students who have distinguished themselves scholastically. The Society is open to eligible Business Administration majors who have achieved Junior/Senior status with the College. New members are invited to participate in the Society and are inducted during Jewell’s Family Weekend each Spring. Since the Alpha Lambda Chapter was founded at William Jewell, there have been 428 total members.
Inductees realize many benefits from participation, including lifetime recognition for outstanding academic achievement, a multitude of sponsored networking opportunities and a scholarship program, to name a few. Faculty Advisors for the Society are Dr. Jean Hawkins and Professor Elizabeth Hoyt.
Delta Mu Delta’s motto is “Through Knowledge, Power – the power to manage creatively for social and economic good.” This motto is exemplified by the Delta Mu Delta members on the Jewell campus with their thirst for knowledge and outstanding GPAs, as the lowest GPA’s are: Junior Standing – 3.813; Senior Standing – 3.78.

Vice President: Ronald A. Johnson
