By Hassanat Kadiri – Upon graduation in May ’11, Jewell accounting major Ms. Rachel Tuszynski began her career journey by joining the New York division of Bimbo Bakeries USA as Sales Associate.
In a recent interview, Ms. Tuszynski credited her Jewell experience and involvement with Jewell’s nationally-ranked SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) team for preparing her for success.
“One of my most positive college experiences was participating on the Jewell SIFE team. While on the Hill, I was also involved in volleyball and sorority which sometimes created time challenges, but I always made time to be involved in SIFE because it was extremely important to me. In fact, the lessons learned and experience gained in SIFE have been instrumental in landing the opportunity at Bimbo Bakeries USA and adapting to the professional world.”
Students in Free Enterprise is a non-profit organization established to assist college students with high leadership qualities and interests in business. This is achieved by harnessing and developing students’ leadership skills through community service involvement and strengthening knowledge through regional and state competitions. SIFE teams compete on one comprehensive criterion: “Considering the relevant economic, social and environmental factors, which SIFE team most effectively empowered people in need by applying business and economic concepts and an entrepreneurial approach to improve their quality of life and standard of living?”
Current SIFE president Kristin Moore ’12 leads the 2011-2012 Jewell team as it seeks to continue its success in regional and national competition. Jewell SIFE achieved a top-16 national finish in last year’s rankings.
