Welcome to the first edition of Jewell Business Today, the Department of Business and Leadership’s new online publication. We are very excited about using this communication to share with you the many activities and accomplishments of the department. In this and future issues you will read about events occurring at Jewell that you may wish to attend, learn more about current students as they prepare for productive careers, and discover the people and resources Jewell has to offer our students and business community partners. We hope our graduates will find Jewell Business Today to be a valuable medium to reconnect with fellow alumni and their alma mater.
Jewell Business Today will be a timely source of information about the Department of Business and Leadership. We also want this newsletter to be an avenue to hear from you. Check out the “Make A Connection” page where you can share your story ideas, recommend a prospective student, and let us know about opportunities you may have for an internship or job opening for which Jewell students/alumni may be a good fit.
In the past several years we have been working hard to continually update our business and leadership program to offer students a variety of engaging and challenging experiences. We believe that business goes beyond the mastery of functional skills to include transformational leadership and ethical decision making. Today’s employers are looking for employees who can thrive in a constantly changing environment that involves complex decision-making and the ability to find and solve problems through analytical and critical thinking. Many of the stories and events you read about illustrate how we are providing opportunities for our students to be outstanding contributors in today’s changing marketplace.
I invite you to explore the stories in this publication and connect with the Jewell business department, fellow alumni, and friends of the college. Next time you are on campus, please stop by and say hello.
Dr. Kelli Schutte, Chair of the Department of Business and Leadership
